Roadrunner Workshop: July 10-16, 2005.
Students will receive a strong infusion of topic and basic theory. Students will research and write an affirmative and put together a starter
negative file. Students will debate one affirmative and one negative round. Ken Troyer, head coach at Lyons High School, and Brooklyn Lippelmann, former Kansas State University debater, will be the Workshop Leaders. [$375 with room & board, $300 without room & board]
Coyote Institute (Traditional Lab): July 10-23, 2005
This will feature debate from the Kansas high school tradition. Emphasis is on case debate, inherency and solvency positions, and case specific disadvantages. An institute debate tournament will be held July 22-23. Gary Harmon, debate coach at Kansas Wesleyan University and former Salina Central High School coach, along with Steve Wood, head coach at Lawrence and Free State High Schools, will be the Lab Leaders. [$490 with room & board, $400 without room & board]
Power 'Yote Institute (Contemporary Lab): July 10-23, 2005
This will feature advanced debate theory and offensive negative positions. An institute debate tournament will be held July 22-23. Melissa Newton, assistant coach at Arizona State University, along with David Register, assistant coach at North Texas State University, will be the Lab Leaders. [$490 with room & board, $400 without room & board]
Debate Coaches Clinic and KSCA Summer Meeting: July 10-11, 2005
We will be offering a Coaches Clinic on Sunday, July 10, from 1:00 pm until 10:00 and Monday, July 11, from 8:00 until noon. Kansas high school coaches and others will make presentations about the 2005 debate topic as well as about debate theory and strategies. The cost is $75 and does not include room & board. We will offer 1 hour of college credit toward certificate renewal for an additional tuition charge of $200.
Coaches may also attend any one of the student workshops or institutes as well. Coaches are invited to attend the lectures, sit in on the labs, use the data bases, and visit with the institute staff during these times. College credit toward recertification will also be available. The cost is $225 per week with room and board and $175 per week without room and board. If you elect to stay for a week or more, the Clinic will be included at no extra charge.
You can receive 3 hours of credit for each week you attend. The tuition cost will be $600 per week. Your KWU instructor for all credit hours will be Gary Harmon. At 6:00 PM Monday evening, we will have an old fashion cookout featuring smoked pork and all the trimmings. A forum for coaches to discuss concerns will follow. After that, KSCA officers will meet to plan the convention and the upcoming year.
The registration deadline is June 5, 2005. If you register after the deadline, all prices increase by $25 (e.g., after June 5, 2005, the cost of Coyote Institute with room & board is $515).
